The client's goals for this design included a modern but naturalistic look for the front yard, featuring a dry stream, and a solution for the sloping south side yard that would complement the existing steps in the north side yard. Plants that tolerate hot, dry sites are selected for the south side. Plants that are adapted to dry shade are recommended on the north side; using containers allows for greater control of soil moisture with minimal disturbance to existing structures.
