This client wanted a cozy space with artistic details for relaxing and hosting small gatherings. Patterned trellis panels provide visual interest while the Trachelospermum jasminoides grows into them. The plants on either side of the wall of the neighbor’s ADU frame the space, highlighting a future mural. A floating wood deck protects the roots of the existing Cedar tree by not compacting the soil underneath it. The deck defines the space of the seating area and can accommodate a removable canopy for use in less-than-perfect weather. The driveway is screened by columnar evergreens.
