The client wanted tough plants that could withstand some neglect, but also indicated a liking for tender plants such as Mandevilla and Bougainvillea. Containers are recommended as a way to add tender vines to the landscape, so they can either be treated as annuals or brought indoors for the winter. The rest of the plant palette is based on grasses and evergreens, with an emphasis on interesting foliage, creating a modern look. A concern the client expressed is the tendency of neighborhood dogs to pee on her lawn, ruining the grass. A pair of landscape boulders placed at the edges of the property give the neighborhood dogs a target to aim for and reduce the impact on the grass.
